What each issue contains
- The tip: something practical you can do in ten minutes, such as checking a certificate chain or tightening a DMARC policy.
- The news: one change in hosting, domains or certificates that is worth knowing about, with context for why it matters.
- The tool: a utility, script or setting worth bookmarking.
A sample issue
Issue 1: Look at your own DNS
Tip. Open a terminal and run dig yourdomain.com ANY +noall +answer or use an online DNS viewer. Read every record. Do you recognise all of them? Old verification records for services you no longer use are harmless, but a CNAME pointing at a cancelled service is a risk. Delete what you cannot explain.
News. Certificate lifetimes are scheduled to keep shrinking over the next few years. Anyone who still renews certificates by hand should plan to automate. The practical effect is that a forgotten renewal will bite sooner.
Tool. The certificate renewal planner on this site, or any external monitor that emails you before expiry.
